NP Paklenica

Velika Paklenica The national park Paklenica is situated in a relatively small area of about 95 square kilometers, from the Adriatic coast up to the highest peaks of Velebit. It's thanks to many natural pecularities and phenomena that the whole area was proclaimed a national park in 1949. There are two deep canyons in Paklenica: Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica. Canyons are vertically cut into the massive of the Velebit mountain in the lenght of 14 and 12 kilometers.

Cave Manita peæ In the area of the national park there are many rare plants and animal species. There are, as well, about 70 caves. The most beautiful are the cave Manita peæ and pothole Vodarica. Manita peæ is illuminated, on 550m altitude. The cave consists of two big halls which are decorated with plenty of stalagmites, stalactites and stalagmates. Visiting is organized accompained by an official guide.

Aniæa kuk The Paklenica national park is the most important alpinist centre known beyond boarders of Croatia. The canyon Velika Paklenica has 300 directions of various difficulties. One of the most known alpinistic destinations in Croatia - Aniæa-kuk, 400 m high - is also situated here. The major climbing season in Paklenica begins in spring on Easter holidays when visitors come from all over Europe. The season continues over summer and autumn till the end of November.
