The
village Sumartin and port is situated south-east on the island Brač.
The people here live and work from the sea and land - fisher olive
growers, winejards and turism. Local ferry service daily to
makarska on the mainland. Good paved roads take you to every town.
Breathtaking views everywhere, especially the high point 778. m
above sea level 'Vidova Gora'. Simply fantastic unspoiled smaller
boats can moored and bigger ones anchor at the port.
Sumartin
was founded in the year 1645. one of the oldest places on the
island. Our franciskan convent foundet in 1747 has alot history.
One of is the church museum. Priceless paintings, precious art a
handpainted nautical map among other treasure. One of the
famous writer fra. Andrija Kačić Miošić lived at the convent.
Up on the hill stands a small chapel 'St. Nicola' from 10th
century.
